Expert Tree Pruning Services in Melbourne
Pruning is one of those jobs that looks simple until it goes wrong. Cut the wrong branch, cut at the wrong time, or take off too much, and you can leave a tree stressed, misshapen or open to disease. Done properly though, pruning keeps trees and shrubs healthy, encourages better growth and flowering, and keeps branches well clear of your roof, gutters and power lines.
At Northern Lawn Mowers, we prune trees, shrubs and plants for homes and businesses across Greenvale, Kalkallo, Craigieburn and the surrounding northern suburbs. We know where to make the cut and when to make it, so your plants come back stronger rather than sulking for a season. Dead wood, overgrown limbs, tangled shrubs, we’ll sort the shape and clear the offcuts.

Residential & Commercial Pruning
For homeowners, good pruning keeps trees and shrubs healthy, safe and in shape, and stops branches creeping onto the roof or over the fence. For commercial sites, rental properties, body corporates and aged care facilities, regular pruning keeps grounds safe and presentable and heads off problems before a branch becomes a hazard. From a single ornamental out the front to a yard full of neglected shrubs, we’ll bring it back into line.

When's the right time to prune?
It depends entirely on the plant. Many trees and shrubs are best pruned in the cooler dormant months, while some flowering varieties should be done right after they finish blooming. Prune at the wrong time and you can cut off next season’s flowers. We’ll tell you what’s right for what you’ve got.
Why not just prune it myself?
You can for small stuff, but the risk is cutting badly and setting the plant back, or worse. Bad cuts invite disease and can leave a tree lopsided for years. Anything up high or near power lines is also a genuine safety risk that’s not worth chancing.
What's the difference between pruning and trimming?
Trimming is mostly about shape and tidiness, hedges being the obvious example. Pruning is more about the health of the plant, removing dead or diseased wood and cutting to encourage strong growth. We do both, and often on the same visit.
Can you prune large trees?
We handle a lot of tree work, but there’s a point where a very large tree becomes a job for a qualified arborist with specialist gear. If yours is in that territory, we’ll be upfront about it rather than taking on something we shouldn’t.
Do you clean up afterwards?
Always, all the branches, leaves and offcuts get cleared away and removed, so your garden’s left neat rather than covered in debris.
Can pruning be done with my other garden jobs?
Yes, very easily. Most customers roll it in with mowing, hedging or a general clean-up so the whole garden gets sorted at once. Just let us know what you’re after when you book.
